With lyrics like "I think I saw your face in some awful dream / I think I saw the sun on a TV screen," Intermountain gives the listener a sense of foreboding while the music still offers a hopeful pulse. But, make no mistake, with lines like "When it's light we won't ask for any more ways to die" is painting a grim portrait. This track feels like a bit of a departure for Ponderosa with a more accessible verse/chorus structure and even a lengthy guitar solo.
